Northern Arizona Healthcare (NAH) has announced the successful conclusion of the initial phase of its comprehensive remodel project at the Summit Center in Flagstaff. This significant update to the healthcare facility, situated on Turquoise Drive, is slated to commence serving patients in its enhanced and expanded spaces later this fall. The completion of this first phase was formally recognized during a dedicated ribbon-cutting event held on Friday.

The renovation efforts at the Summit Center have been actively underway since 2025, marking a sustained period of development for the site. Northern Arizona Healthcare initiated these plans for the Summit Center’s revitalization following a 2023 referendum. That referendum effectively prevented the healthcare system from advancing its proposals for a new hospital campus in Flagstaff. This development prompted a redirection of focus towards enhancing existing infrastructure, culminating in the current Summit Center project.

The newly finished first phase of the remodel brings several crucial upgrades to the Summit Center’s offerings. A prominent feature of this stage is the integration of two hyperbaric chambers into the facility. These specialized installations represent a key component of the updated services available at the center. In addition to these chambers, the renovation has also encompassed the establishment of a new physical therapy room. This dedicated space is designed to support rehabilitation and physical wellness programs for patients receiving care at the Summit Center.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday provided an occasion for Northern Arizona Healthcare leadership to highlight the achievements of this phase. Bo Cofield, who holds the position of Chief Operating Officer for Northern Arizona Healthcare, delivered remarks at the event. His address underscored the importance of the completed work. Following the formal proceedings, Matt Kraemer, the Orthopedic and Spine Institute administrator at Northern Arizona Healthcare, conducted a tour for attendees. This guided walk-through allowed participants to observe the newly remodeled areas of the Summit Center, showcasing the scope of the enhancements made during the first phase.

Northern Arizona Healthcare operates as a broad healthcare provider across the region. The system includes prominent facilities such as Flagstaff Medical Center and Verde Valley Medical Center, among its various locations serving the northern Arizona community. The ongoing work at the Summit Center is part of this larger organizational commitment to maintaining and improving access to quality healthcare services. Preparations will now continue in anticipation of the official opening of these updated and expanded patient spaces later in the upcoming fall season.
